A great spotted woodpecker in the sun yesterday at Marsh's Pool, in the hills above Llangurig.

At Ynys Hir RSPB reserve yesterday, this little robin was perched on a sign, pointing the way to the hide. The highlight of the day was a sighting of a  kingfisher but I'm afraid it was far too fast for me and my camera.Yvonne

These are the berries of black bryony, looking like a garland of bright red jewels. The raised ground behind the fence is a stretch of Offa's Dyke, just outside Montgomery. Yvonne

Two photos of redwings. The one in the hawthorn tree against the stormy sky was taken in the Wye valley today. The one on the table is the bird in its summer quarters, in Reykjavik botanic gardens, finishing some crumbs of apple cake.

Redwings breed and spend the summer in Scandinavia and Iceland and in winter they come to the UK where they like to feed on berries and fruit. They get their name from the red colouring under their wings. Yvonne

Here is a new wildlife photo - a female eider duck and duckling at Akureyri harbour. Yvonne

so here is a photo of a Silver Y moth, seen on Saturday in a field of clover. They are so called because of the silver 'Y' mark on their backs. Apparently they are very widespread throughout Britain in the summer and around November time they fly back to southern Europe for the winter. Yvonne
